Taiwan Trade Surplus Falls 9.1% YoY
Taiwan's trade surplus narrowed to USD 4.28 billion in November of 2019 from USD 4.7 billion in the same month a year ago and compared with market expectations of USD 4.18 billion. Exports went up 3.3% to USD 28,583 billion, mainly boosted by sales of parts of electronic products (10.1%); and information, communication and audio-video products (22.7%) while shipments fell for base metals (-6.5%); plastics and rubber (-6.3%) and machinery (-6.6%). Among major trading partners, shipments jumped to Mainland China & Hong Kong (8%) and the US (16.9%), but fell to ASEAN countries (-10.8%). Imports jumped at a faster 5.8% to USD 24,304 billion, mainly due to purchases of machinery (90.8%); and information, communication and audio-video products (11.7%) while declines were seen in imports of electronic products (-4.3%); petroleum (-17.7%); and chemicals (-2.4%). Imports increased mainly from China and Hong Kong (4.8%), Japan (15.1%), the US (13.2%) and Europe (25.6%).

Taiwan Trade Surplus Widens 18.8% YoY in October
Taiwan's trade surplus rose to USD 3.95 billion in October of 2019 from USD 3.33 billion in the same month a year ago and above market expectations of USD 3.31 billion. Exports decreased 1.5 percent to USD 28.99 billion, dragged down by lower sales of chemicals (-26.7 percent); basic metals and their products (-13.4 percent) and plastic rubber (-14.3 percent. Among major trading partners, shipments fell to Mainland China & Hong Kong (-3.1 percent) and Europe (-6.5 percent). Imports dropped 4.1 percent to USD 25.04 billion, amid lower purchases of agricultural raw materials (-9.9 percent). In contrast, imports of capital equipment (20.2 percent) and consumer goods (3.1 percent) increased. Imports went down from the US (-4.6 percent), Europe (-9.0 percent) and Middle East (-29.2 percent)

Taiwan Trade Surplus Shrinks As Exports Fall Sharply
Taiwan's trade surplus narrowed to USD 3.13 billion in September 2019 from USD 4.37 billion in the same month last year and below market expectations of USD 5.4 billion. Exports slumped 4.6 percent, led by lower sales of base metals (-17.1 percent), machinery (-16.6 percent), and plastics & rubber (-16.3 percent). Among major trading partners, exports declined to Europe (-13.2 percent), China & Hong Kong (-5.5 percent) and ASEAN (-0.6 percent), but grew to the US (8.6 percent) and Japan (1.5 percent). Meanwhile, imports fell at a softer 0.6 percent, driven by a decline in purchases of mineral products (-27.5 percent), such as petroleum (-33.1 percent), and chemicals (-7.8 percent). Imports dropped from the US (-9.6 percent) and the Middle East (-25.9 percent), but increased from China & Hong Kong (9.5 percent), ASEAN (7 percent), Japan (4.1 percent) and Europe (7.3 percent).

Taiwan Trade Surplus Widens in August
Taiwan's trade surplus widened to USD 5.98 billion in August 2019 from USD 4.61 billion in the same month last year, as exports rose 2.6 percent boosted by sales of parts of electronic product (7.5 percent) and information, communication and audio-video products (31.4 percent). In contrast, exports declined for plastics and rubber (-11 percent), machinery (-9.2 percent), and base metals (-5.5 percent). Among key trading partners, exports increased to the US (22.8 percent), Japan (7 percent), Mainland China and Hong Kong (1.1 percent), and ASEAN (0.7 percent). Imports dropped 2.7 percent due to lower purchases of chemicals (-15.7 percent), base metals (-15.2 percent), and mineral products (-5.9 percent). Imports of parts of electronic product and machinery were up 2.1 percent and 1.8 percent respectively. Imports fell from ASEAN (-10.7 percent), Japan (-6.7 percent), the US (-6.9 percent), and Europe (-4.8 percent).

Taiwan Trade Surplus Widens 54.6% YoY in July
Taiwan's trade surplus rose to USD 3.57 billion in July 2019 from USD 2.31 billion in the same month a year ago and above market expectations of USD 2.83 billion. Exports decreased 0.5 percent to USD 28.20 billion, dragged down by lower sales of base metals & related articles (-17.7 percent); machinery (-9.6 percent) and plastics & rubber (-10.1 percent). Among major trading partners, shipments fell to Mainland China & Hong Kong (-3.6 percent); ASEAN (-5.2 percent); Japan (-7.7 percent) and Europe (-2.0 percent). Imports dropped 5.4 percent to USD 24.64 billion, amid lower purchases of mineral products (-15.9 percent); machinery (-1.3 percent); chemicals (-12.9 percent) and base metals & related articles (-10.3 percent). Imports went down from ASEAN (-5.4 percent); Japan (-9.5 percent); the US (-8.3 percent); Europe (-3.0 percent) and Middle East (-15.6 percent).

Taiwan Trade Surplus Narrows in June
Taiwan's trade surplus narrowed to USD 3.87 billion in June 2019 from USD 5.24 billion in the same month a year ago and below market expectations of USD 4.20 billion. Imports jumped 6.6 percent, while markets had forecast a 0.5 percent drop, boosted by purchases of machinery (44.5 percent) and parts of electronic product (9.8 percent). Among major trade partners, imports rose from Mainland China & Hong Kong (9.4 percent), the US (34.3 percent), Europe (13 percent), Japan (4.6 percent) and ASEAN (4.8 percent). Meanwhile, exports increased at a softer 0.5 percent, also defying forecasts of 4 percent fall, driven by sales of information, communication and audio-video products (20.2 percent) and parts of electronic product (3.3 percent). Exports rose to the US (18.5 percent), but declined to all other key partners.
