New Zealand Manufacturing Sales Fall 0.4% YoY in Q2
Manufacturing sales in New Zealand fell 0.4 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2019, after increasing a downwardly revised 2.1 percent in the previous period. Sales dropped further for petroleum & coal products (-8.9 percent from -7.9 percent in Q1); furniture (-1.2 percent from -0.4 percent); and printing (-1.4 percent from -0.2 percent). Additionally, sales increased at a softer pace for meat & dairy (1.1 percent from 10.9 percent); non-metallic mineral products (4.5 percent from 5.1 percent); metal products (1.9 percent from 3.1 percent); transport equipment, machinery & equipment (-6.6 percent from 0.1 percent); and fruit, oil & other food (0.3 percent from 3.2 percent). On a quarterly basis, manufacturing sales went down 2.5 percent, following a 4.7 percent fall in the prior quarter.

New Zealand Manufacturing Sales Gain Steam
Manufacturing sales in New Zealand rose 2.2 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2019, following a 0.3 percent increase in the previous period. Sales of meat and dairy products jumped 10.9 percent, after increasing 1.0 percent in the prior quarter. Also, sales rebounded for seafood processing (7.9 percent compared to -2.8 percent) and non-metallic mineral products (5.1 percent compared to -4.9 percent). In contrast, sales of beverages & tobacco fell 0.2 percent after edging down 0.1 percent, and sales of chemical, polymer & rubber product dropped 7.1 percent following a 3.2 percent decline. On a quarterly basis, manufacturing sales went down 4.7 percent following a 14.5 percent gain in the fourth quarter of 2018.

New Zealand Manufacturing Sales Rebound in Q4
Manufacturing sales in New Zealand rose 0.3 percent year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2018, following a 0.3 percent fall in the previous period. Sales rebounded for meat and dairy products (+1.0 percent vs -5.6 percent in Q3), metal (4.1 percent vs -0.5 percent), and furniture and other manufacturing (5.5 percent vs -0.3 percent). Also, sales advanced further for transport equipment and machinery and equipment (7.0 percent vs 2.6 percent) and fruit, oil, cereal, and other food manufacturing (4.1 percent vs 3.9 percent). On a quarterly basis, manufacturing sales went up 14.5 percent, after declining 6.2 percent in the prior period.
