Jamaica Inflation Rate Jumps to 6-Month High
The annual inflation rate in Jamaica climbed to 4.6 percent in November 2019 from 3.3 percent in the previous month. It was the highest inflation in 6 months, as prices increased at a faster pace for food & non-alcoholic beverages (8.5 percent vs 5.9 percent in October); restaurants & hotels (1.6 percent vs 1.3 percent); alcoholic beverages & tobacco (2.3 percent vs 2.2 percent); clothing & footwear (2.5 percent vs 2.4 percent), and household appliances (3.3 percent vs 3.1 percent). Meanwhile, inflation for communications stayed at 7 percent. In contrast, prices fell for transport (-0.7 percent vs -1.9 percent) and utilities (-1.3 percent vs -1.0 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 1.3 percent, after a 0.6 percent climb in the prior month.

Jamaica October Inflation Rate Falls to 8-Month Low
The annual inflation rate in Jamaica fell to 3.3 percent in October 2019 from 3.4 percent in the previous month. It was the lowest inflation rate in eight months, as prices eased for food & non-alcoholic beverages (5.9 percent vs 6.7 percent in September); restaurants & hotels (1.3 percent vs 1.6 percent); and alcoholic beverages & tobacco (2.2 percent vs 2.4 percent). Also, cost of transport dropped further (-1.9 percent vs -1.3 percent). Meanwhile, prices increased at a faster pace for miscellaneous goods & services (3 percent vs 2.8 percent); furnishings & household equipment (2 percent vs 1.9 percent); and recreation & culture (2.9 percent vs 2.7 percent). Additionally, cost of housing & utilities declined less (-1 percent vs -3.1 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.6 percent, after a 0.4 percent gain in the prior month.

It was the lowest inflation rate in six months, as prices slowed for food & non-alcoholic beverages (6.7 percent vs 7 percent in August); and clothing & footwear (2.4 percent vs 2.6 percent). Also, cost dropped for housing & utilities (-3.1 percent vs 1 percent); and transport (-1.3 percent vs a flat reading). Meanwhile, prices advanced further for miscellaneous goods & services (2.8 percent vs 2.7 percent); recreation & culture (2.7 percent vs 1.1 percent); and health (2.5 percent vs 2.4 percent). Additionally, inflation was steady for restaurants & hotels (at 1.6 percent); furnishings & household equipment (at 1.9 percent); and alcoholic beverages & tobacco (at 2.4 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.4 percent, easing from a 0.8 percent gain in the prior month.

Jamaica August Inflation Slows to 4-Month Low of 4.1%
The annual inflation rate in Jamaica declined to 4.1 percent in August of 2019 from 4.3 percent in the previous month. Prices eased for food & non-alcoholic beverages (7 percent vs 7.8 percent in July); furnishings & household equipment (1.9 percent vs 4.8 percent); and recreation & culture (1.1 percent vs 1.4 percent). In contrast, prices rose further for miscellaneous goods & services (2.7 percent vs 2.4 percent); restaurants & hotels (1.6 percent vs 1.5 percent); health (2.4 percent vs 1.5 percent); clothing & footwear (2.6 percent vs 2.3 percent); and alcoholic beverages & tobacco (2.4 percent vs 2.2 percent). Additionally, cost of housing & utilities rebounded (1 percent vs -0.7 percent); and transport prices were flat (vs -0.2 percent in July). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.8 percent following a 1.1 percent gain in the prior month.

Jamaica Inflation Rate Edges Up to 4.3% in July
The annual inflation rate in Jamaica increased to 4.3 percent in July of 2019 from 4.2 percent in the previous month. Cost rose faster for food & non-alcoholic beverages (7.8 percent from 6.3 percent in June), namely vegetables (25.1 percent from 18 percent) and meat (3.4 percent from 3.2 percent); miscellaneous goods & services (2.4 percent from 2.3 percent) and alcoholic beverages & tobacco (2.2 percent from 2.1 percent). Meanwhile, inflation was steady for communication (at 0.1 percent); recreation & culture (at 1.4 percent) and education (at 4.2 percent). On the other hand, prices slowed for restaurant & hotels (1.5 percent from 1.7 percent); furniture & household goods (4.8 percent from 4.9 percent) and clothing & footwear (2.3 percent from 2.4 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 1.1 percent, rebounding from a 0.1 percent fall in June.
